RE-8 is a site-specific project designed to help raise money for the renovation of 8th Street Community Center in Hunting Park, Philadelphia. 8th Street Community Center stands on the corner of 8th and Butler, the same corner where, back in the 80s and 90s, the so-called “Blue Tape Warriors” sold with impunity massive quantities of illegal drugs.
RE-8’s aim is to invite people, through art and charity, to get to know the city that they call “home,” and for art to come out of its comfort zone and thrive in an unexpected corner of the city.
The exhibition will have on view two series of drawings, which reflect on the sordid history of 8th and Butler and the hope for its re-newal. All works will be available for purchase and all proceeds will be used for the renovation of the 8th St. Community Center. Donations of any amount will also be accepted.
This event will include a silent auction for a postcard drawing by Philadelphia artist, Mia Rosenthal.
We hope to see you on May 18!
